Gallery ART SASTRA…The Creative Cradle

ArtSastra is a 6000 sq. ft. gallery space that Saraswati Music College Society (SMC) has erected to showcase art exhibitions of a variety of artists, such that it not only reaches out to a wide spectrum of audience that values art, but also provides a value to artist through display spaces that are especially infused with structural flexibility to modulate according to the kind of art on the show. For this, the gallery features a thoughtfully designed infra-structure amidst natural surroundings that not only puts the artwork in its right perspective but also enhances the whole experience for the visitor to the gallery in a glare-free environment.

The Gallery consists of various sections for different kind of art objects.
Apart from a gallery space for exhibiting Paintings and Photographs (about 2500 sq. feet, 250 running feet wall area), there is a space (about 1000 sq. feet) marked out for displaying other art  objects like Sculpture, Pottery, Designer objects, Crafts, Art Installations etc.
A separate section (about 600 sq. ft.) has been marked out for Showcasing Digital and Video art and is equipped with Projectors, Kiosks, Sound etc.
Another section (700 sq.ft.) which may be used for interactions, holding forums and discussions etc. is also part of the gallery.
There is a sculpture garden as well in the building complex amidst natural surroundings.
The building also houses a large studio floor (1200 sq ft) which is 16 feet high with a lighting/hanging Truss and can be used for displaying large works of art and art installations. The Art Camp (WRYKT-VYAKT) at ArtSastra is the embodiment of a conceptual space where the wrykt (emptiness) and the vyakt (manifest) take place. Through this Art Camp, we intend to bring forth to the world, the existence of this space, wherein the artist and the art-lover or an enthusiast come together to explore this process of manifestation through an artwork.

In this camp 21 of the  well renowned painters from across India came together to promote the SMC as a hub of varied cultural activity and a platform for promotion and nurturing of artistic talent. They not only painted during the camp while being open to public interaction, but also worked with the under-privileged kids in a combined endeavor to create  some art-work that was donated to CRY.

The gallery is particularly noteworthy for its emphasis on education through its exhibitions, numerous lectures and panel discussions, forums and a watering hole for people of varied art backgrounds to come together and share their experiences.

A labor of love.
We're at a point, after a few years of conceptualization and gathering some of the best regional artists, it's finally all come together now, The gallery deals in paintings, sculptures, as well as digital  arts  from Indian and international  scene. Our taste is eclectic and, as dealers, we are interested in any item of exceptional quality, including, both traditional and modernist in style.

Art Sastra Art Gallery aspires to be a leading specialist in contemporary art featuring a distinctive selection of fine paintings and sculptures by some of Indian and internationally acclaimed contemporary artists.
Geared with an avid and open mindset, Art Sastra will never cease to keep a dedicated gaze towards the churning creativity flowing forth from India. With such a varied and vigorous amount of talent embedded in this competitively diversified nation, there lies a thin line between notable craftsmanship, and the phenomenally artistic. It is Art Sstra's aim to discern the latter from the former, and flourish limelight upon the truly gifted.
Our collection is a showcase of unique, harmonious compositions wording the quintessence of Indian tradition through modern spatial elements and vibrant colors of the Western palette. With excellent artworks by represented top-notch artists, Art Sastra offers professional services as well as consultation in art investment to an international cosmopolitan audience.

In correlation with the City's progressing demand for contemporary art, Art Sastra plans to introduce avant-garde art form, by adopting a strategic stance, and embarking upon the middle road between conventional and contemporary precepts, so that the gallery achieves the combined rarity of fusing traditional concepts with bold modernity. While certain rebellious voices representative of avant-garde artistry might shun the modesty of traditional art, Art Sastra's impartial stance exalts an amalgamation with a difference, as subtle customary undertones mingle with contemporary notions within the same space of canvas, sculptures and digital art.

Lighting and Vision
ELEMENTS of display design and lighting design in gallery,  provide more dramatic possibilities of presentation with  custom-developed equipment and dynamic infrastructure to mould the physical space to provide particular points of emphasis, regulate circulation, handle groups, and create ambience for a diverse range of events, exhibitions and performances.

Lighting in  art gallery serves  two major functions, that of allowing the visitor an atmosphere of relatively pure visual perception for viewing the art while at the same time preventing damage to the artwork from unacceptably high levels of light.  The Gallery is equipped with new designs, new trends, to ensure a glare free and a pure visual experience.

Lighting for Art Gallery has a unique set of priorities, those of conservation and effective display. To attain this balance Art Sastra has placed an  entire armory of the lighting, specifying only the best equipment available matching international norms, considering all aspects of light within the display area with a complete understanding of the reasons for, and requirements of, conservation level lighting.

Where, on one hand, the gallery space does represent the conventional White Cube space, yet it is devoid of the coldness that is not coherent with the sensibilities of Indian conditioning.
