Seema Kohli

Born in 1960 Seema Kohli has created her own niche in the global contemporary art space. Her creative repertoire is eclectic and covers most bases and mediums in the creative field –encompassing painting, murals, installations, sculptures and the video installation performance. A self-taught artist, her creations are symptomatic of the spiritual and philosophical revelations that she has encountered. Her most recent thematic rendezvous has been that of the 'Hiranyagarbha', that originated from a mantra of the Yajur Veda, reflecting the subtle nuances of constant procreation. The female form is the protagonist in her oeuvres d’art. 'Shakti' or the female energy symbolizes procreation and cosmic evolution and also echoes the undercurrents of the gender issue and its implications in today's global world.

She won the gold at the Florence Biennale in the category of video, ("Biennale internazionale dell'arte contemporanea, ciia di firenze, 7th edizione 2009, 1 premio "video", firenze in Florence, Italy) and has also received the Young FICCI Ladies Organisation Women Achiever’s Awards. She is also the recipient of the Lalit Kala National Awards for Women.

Her 10x100ft mural has recently been installed at the Delhi International Airport, GMR T3, the size of 10 x 100 feet. Her works can be seen at the domestic and international airport in Mumbai and also at the Ministery of Defence. In 2009, she produced Yajurveda – an installation in steel, produced in collaboration with Jindal Steelworks (apprx. 7.5 ft x 3.6ft x 9.4 ft), installed at the Manipal University, Karnataka.
